Dental Implants

Dental implants are an effective way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in with your other teeth.  They are an excellent long-term option for restoring your smile.  The development and use of implants is one of the biggest advances in dentistry during the past 50 years.  Dental implants are made up of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body.  They are posts that are surgically placed in the upper or lower jaw, where they function as an anchor for replacement teeth.  Most patients find that a dental implant is secure, stable and a good replacement for their own tooth.  There are generally three implant phases:

1) The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone.

2) The  bone heals, while new bone grows around the implant (Osseous Integration) and holds it in place.

3) A custom crown (new tooth) is designed to match existing teeth. While lab work is being done,  a temporary crown is worn to help patients eat and speak normally while the permanent replacement is being made.

The success of an implants depends on the health of the person receiving it, drugs which impact chances of bone integration, and the health of the tissues in the mouth.  Feel free to contact our office to see if you are a good candidate for dental implants.
